CBC Radio: Almanac

Eileen has been heard on "The Food Panel" on CBC Radio since 1996, discussing issues related to the practical, political and policy aspects of food, food production and agriculture in general.  Topics covered include food inspection, aquaculture, the beef industry, agricultural cooperatives, humane treatment of farm animals, artificial flavours, neutraceuticals, supply managed agriculture and many more.

Mark Forsythe, the host of Almanac, produced a book of the same name which reflected a year in the life of British Columbia.  To see Eileen's essay, click on the following thumbnails.

Eileen and her radio colleagues, Pete Malowney and Herb Barbolet, were recently selected by the BC Agriculture Council as the 2007 winners of an award that recognizes their 10 year contribution to AgriJournalism in BC.

With the guidance of Mark Forsythe, the host of the Almanac Program on CBC Radio, they have educated  and informed the listening audience across the province of BC about numerous issues in the food and agriculture sector.

Throughout the past decade Eileen has learned a great deal and become a passionate supporter of the dedicated people involved in all areas of agriculture in this province.  By helping Almanac's listeners understand how a wide variety of complex factors influence our shopping choices and our dinner tables, our goal on the Food Panel is to provide a bridge of understanding between the farm and the city, between the food industry and the consumer and to keep an eye on the local, provincial and federal government policies that affect both farmers and consumers.
