SUNDAY, AUGUST 8TH : LADNER VILLAGE MARKET: Eileen's prints, cards and magnets on sale
Eileen recently completed this mural in an Oncology Department treatment room. The design incorporates several 'narrative elements', things a child can concentrate on and identify as a distraction from treatment procedures. Asking a child how many musical notes he can find, who is winning the Uno card game, how many monkeys have surfboards etc etc will keep the c
hild's attention on the mural and hopefully lessen their apprehension and discomfort. This mural is one of a series of "Finn's Monkey Rooms", a wonderful tribute project in honor of Finn Sullivan that his family has developed.

Over 60 community volunteers of all ages participated in a giant paint-by-number mural that wraps around the fieldhouse in this well used local park (1200 block Commercial Drive). After just a week, the mural was damaged by graffiti taggers, but volunteers are currently working to restore it. This 'temporary art installation' will be on view until July when the park will be closed for redevelopment and renovation.
