In July 2011, a new, brightly painted Neighbourhood Book Exchange was revealed on the corner of Lakewood Drive and Charles Street in the Grandview-Woodlands neighbourhood of Vancouver. It was built by Eileen Mosca and her neighbours after she came up with the idea based on similar book exchanges in Portland and Victoria. "It's like a bookstore with no charge," said Mosca. Anyone in the neighbourhood can take out books that they want and leave books for others to enjoy. For several years, the spot has been a place where people can communicate with others in the community. Ever since Eileen opened the book exchange in her neighbourhood, book exchanges have been popping up all over the city.
